Current antiviral strategies typically target specific viruses. BRIDGE takes a different approach by targeting the host biology that protects and repairs tissue during infection.

BRIDGE offers the potential to:

  • Target a novel MOA — supporting natural host pathways involved in tissue protection and repair rather than directly targeting the virus.  This approach can prevent antimicrobial resistance as well.
  • Work across multiple viruses — providing a potentially broad approach to respiratory viral infections rather than being limited to a single pathogen.
  • Support high-risk patients with comorbidities like diabetes.
  • Offers a strong safety rationale using an oral formulation designed with long-term use and combination with existing therapies in mind.
  • BRIDGE protected lung tissue and improve survival in a preclinical model of lethal influenza infection.

The next step

Aqabela is now advancing BRIDGE toward completion of the IND-enabling development package, with the goal of progressing to clinical testing.

Exploring BRIDGE across chronic diseases

A New Approach to Respiratory Viral Infection

This creates an opportunity to explore its potential beyond respiratory disease, across conditions where disrupted repair and chronic inflammation contribute to disease progression.

BRIDGE is designed to restore natural biological signals involved in inflammation, tissue repair and systemic physiology. This creates an opportunity to explore its potential beyond respiratory disease, across conditions where disrupted repair and chronic inflammation contribute to disease progression.

Aqabela is seeking pharmaceutical partners to co-develop focused preclinical pilot studies in:

  • Autoimmune disease — including IBD, where restoring tissue repair and inflammatory resolution may complement existing immune-targeted therapies.
  • Inflammatory disease — testing whether BRIDGE can shift chronic inflammation toward productive tissue repair and reduce pathological remodeling.
  • Metabolic disease — exploring its potential to influence systemic metabolic pathways and improve physiological resilience.
  • Neurodegenerative disease — investigating whether restoration of gut-derived biological signals can influence pathways relevant to neuroinflammation and tissue homeostasis.

A low-risk path to explore new indications

Rather than committing immediately to a large development program, Aqabela proposes targeted, hypothesis-driven pilot studies designed to establish biological activity, define mechanism-linked biomarkers and identify the indications where BRIDGE has the greatest therapeutic potential.

We welcome pharmaceutical partners with a disease area, model or therapeutic hypothesis they would like to explore with BRIDGE.

Aqabela is interested in partnering with consumer health and food companies to bring products with meaningful, science-backed health benefits to consumers.

Our technology can be incorporated into beverages, creating opportunities to develop products that do more than hydrate, they can support health and help people stay well.

We are particularly interested in partners looking to develop products targeting areas such as:

  • Gut health
  • Immune health
  • Metabolic health
  • Healthy ageing/Longevity
  • Performance and recovery

Our goal is to combine consumer-friendly products with credible science and substantiated health claims, giving consumers greater confidence in the choices they make every day.  In fact, we've already identified hidden healthy properties in a select group of CPG food products.

We welcome corporate partners interested in developing the next generation of science-backed health products.
